Realized Solutions’ clients come from many different industries so it’s important to ensure when planning or completing a project our focus is being able to accommodate the current systems a client has in place. RSI’s client recently acquired a new company with a different system than what they work with. The primary company utilizes an Oracle database, and the acquired company works in a MS SQLServer database.
The primary company using Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) as a business information tool and has chosen OAC as a solution for both requirements while requiring access to the acquired company’s data for various purposes; claim and pricing analysis, along with internal and regulatory reporting. The acquired company works with MS Access for business customers to query Production data in MS SQLServer.
OAC – Oracle Analytics Cloud
A Cloud native platform by Oracle that provides a suite of tools to manage the entire Business Data Analytics process
- Data Consumption, Data Cleansing, Reformatting
- Data Reporting and Visualization
Here’s how RSI worked with our client to ensure the acquired company and system ran smoothly and successfully.
Case 1: Replacement of MS Access queries
Currently, business customers use MS Access as a “pass through” tool to submit queries to MS SQLServer (Live Production data)
- There are issues with slow performance and out of memory errors with some queries due to size of result sets
- Oracle’s Remote Data Gateway was installed on the server that hosts SQLServer, allowing OAC to connect to the SSL SQLServer databases via read-only OAC Data Connections
- SQL queries are being converted to OAC
- This will allow business customers to connect to Live Production SQLServer databases to perform queries, generate Reports and Visualizations (graphs, etc)
Case 2: Actuaries require access to quarterly snapshots of Production data to perform analysis, reporting, pricing, etc
A new server was setup, hosting a separate instance of SQLServer
- Oracle’s Remote Data Gateway was installed on this server, allowing OAC to connect to the SQLServer databases via read-only OAC Data Connections
- On a quarterly schedule, backups of Live Production data are restored on this separate instance, and named uniquely for Quarter and Year
- A full years’ worth of Quarterly snapshots is stored, allowing the Actuary team to query and report against each Quarter independently
- Members of the Actuary team use OAC to query and report against this Quarterly data
OAC Architecture:
Oracle Remote Data Gateway – facilitates connection between OAC and offsite MS SQLServer databases:
