How Microsoft Helped Nonprofits during the COVID‑19 Crisis

How Microsoft Supports Nonprofits During COVID‑19

Nonprofits faced intense pressure during the COVID‑19 pandemic, especially those working directly with communities. Many organizations expanded services quickly, and as a result, they relied heavily on technology to stay connected, manage data, and deliver critical support. Because of this growing demand, Microsoft stepped in to help nonprofits strengthen their digital operations. As a result, organizations gained reliable tools that improved communication, collaboration, and service delivery when they needed it most.

Free and Discounted Microsoft Tools for Nonprofits

Microsoft introduced several free or discounted resources, and each one helped nonprofits continue their mission with more efficiency. These tools also allowed teams to work remotely, scale programs faster, and manage sensitive information securely.

Azure Credits for Nonprofits

Microsoft doubled Azure credits for eligible nonprofits and increased the yearly amount from $3,500 to $7,000. This increase gave organizations more flexibility as they stored data, hosted apps, analyzed information, and supported remote operations. Even better, nonprofits could move key processes into the cloud without increasing their budgets.

Windows Virtual Desktop Access

In addition, Microsoft offered 100 Windows Upgrade licenses and a Windows Enterprise E3 trial for up to 100 users for six months. Because of this, nonprofit teams accessed desktops and applications from anywhere. This also strengthened data security and made remote operations easier to manage.

Free Deployment and Technical Support

To help organizations adopt these tools quickly, Microsoft provided several support services at no cost. These services helped teams set up systems correctly, resolve technical issues, and increase training opportunities.

Azure Onboarding Concierge

This team guided organizations through Azure setup, user onboarding, and essential training. As a result, nonprofits deployed cloud services faster and with more confidence.

Windows Virtual Desktop Help Desk

Microsoft offered direct help for remote desktop questions, troubleshooting, and configuration support. Therefore, teams experienced fewer roadblocks as they shifted to remote environments.

Microsoft Community Training Concierge

This service helped nonprofits build mobile-friendly training programs for staff and volunteers. Consequently, organizations trained large groups of people quickly and consistently.

Eligibility for Microsoft’s Nonprofit COVID‑19 Support

Microsoft prioritized nonprofits working in frontline or essential areas. Although many organizations applied, those providing critical services received priority.

Nonprofits That Qualified First

  • Health Support
  • Human Services
  • Public Safety
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Housing Support
  • Organizations Conducting COVID‑19 Research

These groups often needed immediate access to technology, so Microsoft focused its resources where they could make the biggest impact.
